5 New Cars under R200k in South Africa 2021

The new vehicle market is currently showing gradual improvement, in September 2021 new passenger car market at 29 538 units had registered an increase of 6 895
cars, or a gain of 30,5%, compared to the 22 643 new cars sold in September 2020. The
COVID-19 pandemic has had a widespread impact on the economy, this has influenced consumers with many consumers opting for budget-friendly cars. There are extensive options available in the used car market, we have however focused this article on new cars under 200k.

Suzuki introduced the S-Presso in the South African market in 2020. It is the perfect vehicle for the 1st time car owner.  It comes with a 2yr/30000km service plan and a 3 year/100000km manufacturer warranty.  It is powered by a  naturally aspirated 1.0-litre petrol engine with the options of either a 5 speed manual or 5 speed AMT transmission. The S-Presso only weighs 770kgs and fuel consumption is light at 4.9 L/100km. The compact city SUV comes standard with ABS,EBD and dual airbags, reverse camera and rear parking sensors. The little Suzuki also has a 7″ infotainment system touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity and USB/12v charging ports.

 

2. Mahindra KUV 100 NXT - From R158 999

The Mahindra offers great value for money. The small crossover comes standard with air conditioning, ABS, EBD, driver and passenger airbags, on the entertainment side the standard features are good enough for a budget car with features such as USB+Bluetooth connectivity.  Powered by a 1.2-Litre  3 cylinder petrol engine using a 5 speed manual transmission. The Mahindra gives decent fuel economy at 5.9-litres/100km. The new Mahindra KUV100 comes standard with a 3 Year / 50 000km service plan and 3 Year /100 000km warranty.

3. Hyundai Atos - From R178 900

The small budget friendly city car from Hyundai is powered by a 1.1-Litre four cylinder petrol engine produced 50kW and 99Nm of torque and comes with a manual 5 speed gearbox or a 5 speed AMT gearbox, the latter being more expensive. The Atos can be considered light on fuel using only 5.7-litres for every 100km. The Atos also comes standard with dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and central locking. On the inside you will find a 7inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Manual aircon, electric front windows and a 12v charging socket. The Hyundai is also considered to be one of the safer cars within its segment. The Hyundai comes with a 5-year /150000km warranty and a 1-year/15000km service plan.

 

4. Renault Kwid - From R167 900

The quirky Renault Kwid is the best selling passenger vehicle in South Africa for the Renault brand. Powered by a 1.0 petrol engine accompanied by a 5 speed Manual transmission. Fuel efficiency is class leading 4.7-litres/100km. The Kwid comes standard with a 5-year/150 000km warranty. The Kwid has two airbags in the front for passenger and driver, ABS, EBD and rear park sensors form part of some of the standard safety features. The interior features a 7-Inch touchscreen that integrates Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, AUX-in port and 12v power socket.

5. Toyota Agya - From R184 900

The five door urban hatchback by Toyota is powered by a 1.0-Litre 3 cylinder petrol engine paired with a 5 speed manual transmission. Average consumption is 4.8-Litre/100km. All Agya models are sold with a 2-services/20 000 km service plan. A 3-year/100 000 km warranty is also provided. The Agya is also the safest option within the budget segment. On the inside you will find that the base model does not include a radio, but there are two speakers should you wish to fit you own radio, air conditioning, multi info display, electric mirrors and windows are standard with all models.
