Stephen Ratel founder and current CEO of SRO Motorsports Group has announced the Intercontinental GT Challenge calendar for 2022 at the company’s annual press which was held on Sunday 10 October in Barcelona Spain.
The calendar has increased to four rounds for the year 2022. The biggest change to the calendar is the welcome return of the Bathurst 12 hour, one of the most unforgiving endurance races in the world. The Spa, Indianapolis and Kyalami rounds keep their traditional calendar slots for the remainder of IGTC calendar in 2022.
The inclusion of Kyalami as the fourth round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge in 2022 comes as welcoming news to South African race fans who will be optimistic about the opportunity to go trackside in full force sooner rather than later.
The current Covid-19 restrictions only allow for 2000 spectators at outdoor sporting events, it should be noted however that low active Covid-19 cases and an increase in the number of vaccinated citizens could lead to more relaxed regulations before the final round of the 2021 Intercontinental GT Challenge which takes place on 2-4 December 2021 at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.
The provisional calendar for the Intercontinental GT Challenge 2022
18-20 March – Bathurst 12 Hour
29-31 July – Total 24 Hours Of Spa
8-9 October – Indianapolis 8 Hours
26-27 November – Kyalami 9 Hours
